Earl grey at his best, when he's all smoky. That added lapsang makes all the difference

Fantastic service and good value for money. I find the smoky Earl Grey tea very pleasant But not as smoky as some others I have had.

The teapot may provide a smoky tea which I will look forward to trying another time.

Certainly as good as Fortnum and Mason's Smoky Earl Grey

Posted by John Nixon on 1st Oct 2019

Recently I was extremely grateful to a helpful woman who worked in the Fortnum & Mason branch at Heathrow airport, for persuading me to try F&M's Smoky Earl Grey. It was head and shoulders above any other tea I've tried in my time. Believe me, I've tried a lot, on a global scale. Then I got to thinking, surely there must be something else out there that can live in the company of F&M's SMEG (apologies, that mnemonic was just too good to resist). And perhaps at a less inflated price tag. It turns out there is in fact a better iteration of SMEG. It's TheTeapot's offering. Good tea can be something of a love/hate relationship in that even the very best of teas can quickly become overbearing when drunk too much, or too often. Especially where black teas are concerned. But TheTeapot's SMEG seems to be the exception to the rule. It is delightfully subtle and sophisticated in the fragrance and the after taste. It quickly becomes clear that it's one of the most refreshing proper teas you'll ever have had the good fortune to have drunk. Eleven out of ten. At least.

If it's good enough for Royalty....

Bought this special tea after reading that Fortnum and Mason blend a special smoky Earl Grey tea for Royalty. Always liked Earl Grey but found it a bit thin. Made my own blend by mixing equal proportions with Assam and enjoyed this for years. The smoky earl grey makes the most satisfying cup of tea I have ever had. Wonderful aroma and taste. Difficult to obtain in non specialist shops.
